To God Be the Glory

To God Be the Glory

A very simple statement but one that is packed with lots of meaning, feelings, and emotions.  It was my mantra when I was going through cancer six years ago and it has come to be a theme phrase in my life.

To break this down a bit the first thing we see is To God, this is where faith comes in, you must believe in God.  I’m not going to get into all the different theologies about believing in God, just that you need to have faith and belief in God. Second, is the word Glory.  Wow, what a magnificent word. The dictionary defines Glory as:

  • very great praise, honor, or distinction bestowed by common consent
  • adoring praise or worshipful thanksgiving.

With this definition in mind, I give God all the praise, honor and worshipful thanksgiving for everything He has done for me.  To do this, I need to stop and reflect on what God has done (past) and is doing (present) in my life.  It is important to note that no matter what the situation or circumstance, God is still there, period.  We might be in a situation or circumstance because of the choices we have made, remember that God has given us our own free will to make our own choices.  He can and does direct us, but we ultimately make our own decisions.  And there are this very real phenomena called evil that is present in this world that may not have anything to do with our own choices or decisions.  So, no matter what the situation or circumstance, know that God is still there.  Give him the Glory.  The situation or circumstance can be very real and come with all the emotions like fear, anger, hurt, pain, resentment, etc.  Cancer I went through was very real.  The surgeries, the chemotherapy, the number of times I was on my death bed and those “come to Jesus” moments were all very real but God was right there during those events and completely healed me.

It was not always easy to “Give God the Glory” during that time in my life, but I have learned to give God the Glory no matter what the circumstance or situation might be.  And in doing so, I am more aware of what God is doing in my life, why he is doing it and how I am going to get through it.  So, what is your situation?  What are the circumstances and life events that you are going through?  Do they seem dark, hopeless, uncertainty, filled with fear?  Give God the Glory. Say it again, out loud.  By his promises, I know that God will answer your prayer, meet your needs, deliver you, heal you and walk with you through these times.

“To God Be the Glory”

Amen
