What Breaks My Heart
As I’ve gotten older I have become more observant in what is going on around me and quite honestly there are a few things that break my heart. These aren’t in any particular order of importance but just what comes to mind. And these are my observations, my brokenness, my hurts, and my concerns.
- Men
It breaks my heart to see how many men have given up on life, relationships, parenting, dreams, etc. The key is that they have given up. I see so many men that have rolled over and let all kinds of influences run and control their life. But there is hope, there are answers.
- Marriage
It breaks my heart to see so many marriages either breaking up or not living up to their potential. Divorce is a gut-wrenching, painful experience and I am seeing way too many couples go through it. I hurt not only for the husbands and wives but also for the children, extended family, and friends that experience this pain. But there is hope, there are answers.
- Church
It breaks my heart to see churches that are struggling, barely existing and not doing what Jesus called them to do. We see from Scripture that Jesus primarily did three things when he was here on earth and taught his disciples and followers to do the same. They are to preach, teach and bring healing. And he did all of this with compassion for the people. I see churches that are afraid to preach the kingdom of God, (sin, repentance, forgiveness, salvation, etc.) because it is “offensive” to some people and other religions. It breaks my heart to see churches that are not teaching their people how to live their lives. They aren’t teaching about the sanctity of marriage, parenting, integrity, honesty, serving and sharing their faith just to name a few. As a former youth pastor, my heart hurts when I see youth pastors today just entertaining kids and not preaching, teaching or bringing healing. I don’t see many churches bringing healing. Sure, most churches give it lip service but what happened to praying boldly for physical healing, emotional healing, relational healing, financial healing? But there is hope, there are answers.
